From Farm to Table: Final Shopping Trip

Now that it's February, you may be wondering what I did with that remaining $64 I had in January's budget.  I placed one last online order, this time from Mountain Rose Herbs.  I knew that $64 wouldn't quite cover the bill, so I waited until near the end of the month to order, knowing I would need some of February's money to cover the rest.  Here's what I ordered, which will be enough to last for a few months to well over a year, depending on the item.  Also, all items are organic (some also fair trade) exept 1 item which was not offered with an organic option.

vanilla beans, 4oz: $23
cardamom, 8oz: $8.75
ginger root powder, 8oz: $5.25
cinnamon powder, 1 lb: $4.25
garlic powder, 8oz: $4.75
darjeeling tea, 8oz: $6.75
dandelion root, 8oz: $7.75
dandelion leaf, 8oz: $6.50
oatstraw, 1 lb: $5.53
nettle leaf, 1 lb: $8.08
chamomile flowers 1 lb: $8.50

shipping: $7.75

Total: $96.86
(By the way, some of the costs listed won't match the costs on the MRH website. That is because I placed an order with 3 other ladies, and we received a 15% bulk discount on every item that was 1 lb. since we ordered 10 different 1 lb products. We also split the shipping cost.)

So here is the final list of all my grocery shopping for the month of January:

Beef: $25
Grains: $10
Co-op: $95.58
Trader Joe's 1: $45.33
Produce delivery 1: $46.25
Dairy delivery: $41.25
Trader Joe's 2: $56.34
Odds + Ends from my Mom: $25.64
Produce delivery 2: $47.50
Mountain Rose Herbs order: $64 (plus $32.86 of Feb's money)
* Minus the recalled cream from the dairy delivery: $4.50
* Minus the kale that was out of stock from the co-op: $2.39

Total budgeted: $450.00
Total spent: $450.00

And, yes, I am definitely a stickler; I really strive to never go over my budget.  That's not to say it never happens.  But on the occasion when I do, I choose to make it up the next month by utilizing more of my pantry and freezer so I can underspend by that same amount.  And on the months where I am under budget, I roll that money over to the next month for a large upcoming order, or if it's summer, for berry picking/buying seconds at the local farm.
